Lorie Hutchison began running marathons in 1984 and ran her first ultramarathon, the Wasatch 100, in 1998. She has since completed over 20 ultras, twice finishing Death Valley’s Badwater 135, billed as the world’s toughest footrace, the Leadville 100, Squaw Peak 50, and numerous 30-50 mile and 30-50 kilometer runs. In October 2008, Lorie completed a border-to-border run across Utah, a total of 367 miles, in 8 days. In addition to running, Lorie is an accomplished mountaineer, having summited Alaska’s Mt. McKinley twice, on different routes, Mt. Rainer on four occasions, Africa’s Kilimanjaro, and multiple 14,000 foots peaks in the Rocky Mountain region.
Lorie is beginning her 11th year as a flight nurse and works for IHC’s Life Flight in Salt Lake City, UT, where she resides. In addition to typical flight nurse responsibilities, she is a member of the Life Flight Hoist team that rescues stranded and injured recreationalists from remote locations too dangerous for evacuation by ground. Lorie also coordinates survival and wilderness training for Life Flight.
In Lorie’s free time she enjoys reading, hiking with her dogs, cycling, canyoneering, and backpacking with her partner.
